What's an ADU?
Granny flats, in-law apartments, casitas, guest houses, pool houses, backyard homes. Through time, these constructions have gone by various names. Presently, they are most frequently referred to in planning departments as accessory dwelling units, or ADUs.
We founded ADORE Homes on the premise of making ADUs a life enhancer for households. Unlike many other products on the market, our ADUs are designed with quality, aesthetics, and functionality as top priorities.
An ADU is a secondary residential unit on a single-family lot. It includes all the essentials for independent living: a kitchen, bathroom, sleeping area, and separate entrance.
ADUs come in three types: detached (standalone structures), attached (additions to the main house), and conversion (repurposed garages or other existing spaces).
In California, ADUs can range from compact studios under 400 square feet to spacious two-bedroom units up to 1,200 square feet.
The benefits of ADUs extend beyond individual homeowners — they help address California's housing shortage by adding gentle density to existing neighborhoods without changing community character.
